Portsmouth DarkFest 2020: Covid-safe Chills and Thrills

Portsmouth DarkFest has returned for a Covid-safe Halloween celebration of the supernatural, the macabre and the weird. Since 2016 the organisers have delighted in staging a festival that celebrates the rich and diverse local creative talent in our city, and to indulge in a festive walk on the dark side.

Sadly, this year’s pandemic has made life as strange as the fictions and art that we conjure. The audiences who have repeatedly turned out on chill October nights have often help make DarkFest events so memorable and have been an important part of the strange alchemy the festival creates. Unfortunately, getting people together to listen to fascinating talks, frightening stories, or thrilling live music just can’t be done in the same way in 2020. Therefore, we have reduced the length of the festival to coincide with the run up to Halloween, and we have moved most events online.

From macabre movie showings to horrific Halloween cabaret nights to freaky filmmaking competitions, DarkFest 2020 promises to be memorable.
