There are ten days to go before the Portsmouth Performers for Palestine event and tickets are still available. In advance of the event, which is brought to you in association with Star & Crescent, the University of Portsmouth, the Universities of Sanctuary and Unite the Union, we present a poem by writer and academic Amanda Garrie, who will be appearing on the night.
The Sorrows
The land of the olives the dates and the figs
made into nightmares where no-one can live
seared by the anguish the wailings of ghosts
that render it spare and relentless with winds
where cries rise in the air like hosannahs of hosts
the shame of all nations complicit with sin
and we who allow it the shame of us all
Reich killings then now the Zionists’ call
the kin and the kith intertwined, interlaced,
the sorrows of peoples, the dead,
the beleaguered
You can see Amanda and others perform on June 11th. Book free tickets for the event here.
