Portsmouth Performers for Palestine Event on March 28th

On 28th March, Portsmouth-based poets, fiction writers, puppeteers and musicians will perform at an event to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Many of the performers have contributed to S&C over the years. Starting at 7.45pm at the Barley Mow pub in Southsea, Portsmouth, the event will be headlined by the American political folk singer David Rovics. David is internationally renowned for his songs about socialism, labour history, US imperialism and the plight of the Palestinians.

The situation in Gaza could not be more urgent, as Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid to the region, putting hundreds of thousands of lives at risk. As if this crime against humanity wasn’t severe enough, Israeli air strikes have killed more than 400 people in just 24 hours. This is in addition to over 48,000 who have lost their lives since October 2023.

Raising funds for much-needed medical supplies at this time is essential, given the failure of the international community to protect Palestinians. For 16 months now, the US and UK have not only failed to condemn Israel’s genocide against Gaza but have continued to sell it arms and even abetted the bloodshed by deploying their own armed forces. To this day, the RAF (Royal Air Force) has flown over 200 surveillance missions in support of Israel.
