
The Good Things Foundation and Google have teamed up to bring Portsmouth residents the Google Digital Garage which will provide free training courses for the people of Portsmouth, contributing editor Paris Ali-Pilling reports.
The Good Things Foundation has partnered with Google to bring Google Digital Garage to Portsmouth this coming October with free training courses for Portsmouth residents to grow their ‘confidence, career or business.’
The Portsmouth Google Digital Garage opens on 11th October at 105a Commercial Road, PO1 1BQ.
The project started in 2015 and since then has run in 500 locations within the UK and trained 300,000 people. It is run by the charity Good Things Foundation and aims ‘to help people in their local area to improve their digital skills to make the most of their business’.
Itay Haber, Head of Marketing at Google UK said, ‘In the digital age, a basic understanding of how the online world works is useful; and when it comes to business, it’s essential. At Google, we’re fully committed to helping people become more digitally savvy, and through this partnership, we hope to extend our support to communities where in-depth support and training is most needed’.
Below is a list of all of the training that is being provided for free, including so writing your C.V., polishing up a presentation, learning the best ways to promote your business through social media. Training is also available in areas like coding for beginners, and internet safety.

The Google Digital Garage is part of a wider programme being delivered by the business across Europe. Alongside the training for individual local residents, the Digital Garage also offers partnership opportunities to local teams, groups or communities whereby free training can be offered to groups at the Portsmouth Digital Garage or other venues.
