From Portsmouth to Last of the Summer Wine, with a Touch of Crime

Husband and wife team Brian Murphy and Linda Regan return to Portsmouth as part of Mystery Fest, which was delayed back in March. Portsmouth Mystery Fest organiser Carol Westron reports.

Anyone who remembers vintage classics George and Mildred, Last of the Summer Wine or Hi De Hi will know the faces of actors Brian Murphy and Linda Regan.

Brian and Linda were scheduled to appear at Mystery Fest in March but snow disrupted the original day and they were unable to attend the rescheduled event. Determined not to disappoint their fans, they plan to do a two-man show on 14th July, 2.00-4.30pm, at Portsmouth Central Library.

In a talk called Acting Can Be Murder, Linda will tell us her acting career and her more recent career as a writer of crime fiction. Following this, in The Life of Brian, Linda will interview Brian about his life and career.

Although famous for many performances Brian is probably remembered best for his comedy roles in Man About the House, George and Mildred and Last of the Summer Wine. Linda is still remembered with affection as Yellowcoat April in Hi De Hi, the comedy set in a holiday camp.

Both Brian and Linda have strong connections with Portsmouth. Brian spent his childhood in the city and Linda did her Creative Writing M.A. at the University of Portsmouth.

This is a unique opportunity to meet two brilliant actors and to talk to Linda about her books. Linda’s books will be on sale and she will be happy to sign copies.

Tickets cost only £4, which includes refreshments at the break. People who retained their tickets for Mystery Fest back in March can get in free.
