Pompey Writes: Star & Crescent Anthology and Book Launch

S&C co-founder and features editor Tom Sykes reports on our upcoming book, Pompey Writes, an anthology of the best writing and visual art to have appeared on the website plus brand new material from some of our contributing editors. All are welcome to the book’s launch on 3rd October 2018 from 6.30 to 9pm in the Eldon Building, University of Portsmouth.

Made possible with the generous support of Portsmouth University’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, Pompey Writes reflects the diversity of content on S&C over the last three years, with challenging, critically-minded and pioneering investigations into local culture, media, ecology, housing, healthcare, education and gender issues alongside Portsmouth-oriented poetry, satire, short fiction, travel writing, memoir, graphic design and photography.

S&C has always been a mouthpiece for voices that, as we put it in our founding mission statement, ‘are not otherwise heard in the mainstream media.’ Pompey Writes is no exception and boasts work by representatives of marginalised and overlooked local groups including migrants, the homeless, members of ethnic minorities and working-class women.

We are proud to be collaborating with, amongst others, local publisher Matt Wingett and graphic designer Dan McCabe (whom we can thank for the wonderful picture above which the book’s front cover will be based on) on Pompey Writes, which will be available both in hard copy and in ebook format.

The launch event on October 3rd will combine readings, musical performances, audiovisual displays and an exhibition of the photography and graphic design featured in the anthology.

Don’t miss it, and make you sure you grab your copy in October.
