Portsmouth-based Palestinian Student and Family in Need of Financial Help

Abedelraheem Hamad is a talented Chevening scholar who was evacuated from Gaza by the British government to study for a Masters in Crisis and Disaster Management at the University of Portsmouth in September 2025. Over 71,000 Palestinians – mostly innocent civilians – have been officially recorded as killed in Israel’s genocide in Gaza, although the actual figure is likely to be much higher.

The 38-year-old arrived on a student visa and has been living in student accommodation. Now, his wife and child have been permitted to also evacuate as his dependents. They arrived on 1st February.

The university is currently unable to house Abood and his family. He has no recourse to public funds and is therefore seeking temporary private accommodation for his family with very limited funds.

His friends and colleagues in Portsmouth are asking the community to help raise funds to support this family who have managed to escape genocide and are seeking refuge in Portsmouth.

This family needs our assistance now. Let’s give them a warm welcome to Portsmouth!

Please give generously so they can secure a place to stay and cover their bills.
