Portsmouth Performers for Palestine: ‘Gaza’ by Sue Harper

In advance of the Portsmouth Performers for Palestine event, brought to you in association with Star & Crescent, staff and students at the University of Portsmouth, the Universities of Sanctuary and Unite the Union, we present a poem by writer, Emeritus Professor and S&C Literary Editor Sue Harper, who will be performing at the gig.

Gaza

Yahweh knocks on your door
There is blood in his hair
His teeth are snaggled
His mottled limbs
Knot on the dirt floor:
Hear him: ‘an eye
For an eye, a tooth
For a tooth’
See him: a pile of severed arms
(pure genius really), a stagnant pool of tears,
The milkless breasts
He is the ziggurat
The high altar where hearts are ripped out: he is
The anvil too, he is
The rack, the noose. But look!
The boomerang

You can see Sue and others perform on June 11th. Book free tickets for the event here.
